Moving Day. Part One

After nearly three weeks in Porirua we are now living 10 stories above Middle Earth in a 2-bedroom apartment. We moved in late Friday evening and then went to dinner at a restaurant called the General Practicioner. Kind of an itneresting place, actually. The decorations included really big, old hypodermic needles and assorted other medical gear on the first floor. Upstairs, where we had dinner, there were animal horns and the odd big fish or two mounted on the wall. Apparently, the GP liked hunting and fishing. There were also a lot of old black-and-white photographs on the wall showing people hunting, fishing and camping.
I had a steak dish, Elena had the fish.
Our new apartment is painted a kind of yellow and it could use a little work. Still, it's only a temporary refuge until we move into the 3-bedroom house we're renting in Lower Hutt on July 14th. The apartment building is on a road called The Terrace (I know, weird name for a road.) The terrace runs up a big hill (pretty much everything in Wellington runs up, or down, a big hill so that's no surprise.) Interestingly enough, to get down to the next street you can walk down a bunch of steps or go to the James Cook Hotel a half-block away and take an elevator down (and up.) That's kind of cool and, God knows, as undependable as my legs are these days, it's also a big relief.
Elena's son Josep and his cousin Elena arrive tomorrow so we're trying to get everything in the apartment set up for when they join us for the next seven weeks.

This was our home in Porirua for almost three weeks

The view towards Wellington Bay from the tiny little balcony outside our new apartment.

The view from The terrace down to Lambton Quay where there are a lot of  cool restaurants and book stores.
